Some bonds can never be broken... Addie Downs and Valerie Adler will be excellent friends forever. This's what Addie believes afterwards Valerie moves across the street when they're together nine years old. But in the wake of betrayal during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school's scapegoat. Flash-forward fifteen years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents' house in their small hometown of Pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to locate her long-gone excellent friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help." Excellent Friends Forever is a grand, hilarious, edge-of-your-seat adventure; a story concerning betrayal and loyalty, family history and small-town secrets. It's concerning living throughout tragedy, finding love where you least expect it, and the ties this keep excellent friends mutually. Compact Disk Consists of a bonus MP3 CD of Jennifer Weiner's Little Earthquakes! |

Couldn't put it down! 2010-03-06 |
| By S. Levy (NY) |
| Her books are easy to read, but same time Weiner writes about heavy subjects. This one for example about being outsider in school and its affects in later adultlife. You cant just like her characters. You feel pity, but at the same time you would like to say Pull yourself together! I liked this book, like I have liked all her other books too. |
Another wonderful book by Jennifer Weiner 2010-03-01 |
| By Becky D Mc (san jose, ca United States) |
| This book made me laugh and cry, and I rarely do either while reading novels. As with the best of books, I could "see the movie," and absolutely loved her character development. I recently read, "In Her Shoes," and saw the movie a few years ago. (Naturally, the book was better than the movie, though I enjoyed the movie and eventually bought a copy.) Jennifer Weiner really relates to people-- not just to women, but also to men. I was charmed by BFF and am ordering a copy (the copy I finished an hour ago was from the library). I'm quite sure we'll see it as a movie in a couple of years. |
Loved It! 2010-02-26 |
| By Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf (PA, USA) |
It's as simple as this: I adored this book!
Ms. Weiner definitely knows how to pack a plot full of surprises and turns that you didn't see coming. As I read Best Friends Forever, there was constantly several questions in my head. Such as "What happened in high school that hurt Addie and Val's friendship?" or " Would Val and Addie overcome their struggles and become friends again?" All these questions lead to me to race through this sweet and addicting read in less then one day!
Addie was a character that I loved and was rooting for the whole time. Since, she was a sweet an funny girl who just need to find where she wanted to be in life. Also, I loved how she took care of her brother, Jon, and didn't just run away from him after the accident. Val, on the other hand was a bit hard to like. Because, as you continued to read Best Friends Forever, you began to find out some things that didn't make her look like that great of a person. Though, as the story went on and I began to like her a bit more, I started to understand her actions. Leaving me to come to a good place with her by the end. Last but not least, I adored Jordan. He was a loyal and great guy who had a heart of gold in hiding. Throughout, I was hoping that he would come to his senses and admit his feelings for Addie.
Overall, Best Friends Forever is a book that I can say nothing but fantastic things about. I look forward to reading Jennifer's previous books as well as her future ones.

Not great, not awful, just kind of "eh" 2010-02-20 |
| By Bleeding Espresso (Calabria, Italy) |
Having loved Good in Bed and In Her Shoes, I dove into this book with excitement; I was still excited through the first few chapters as I got to know Addie and Val . . . but then I lost excitement as I, well, got to know Addie and Val.
I just didn't connect with these characters or care what happened to them. I found them both to be rather pathetic in their own ways and cliché at that; needless to say, I didn't find myself rooting for either one of them.
I also found the plot contrived and strange (unbelievable might be the word I'm looking for here), and I *really* wasn't feeling the continual back story via flashbacks (I was always taught this was a huge no-no in storytelling and now I see why). When it comes down to it, the actual action in this book would probably fill 50 pages or so-and unfortunately that particular action seemed absurd at times.
All that said, I didn't have any trouble picking the book back up again once I put it down or even finishing it, which I must attribute to Weiner's writing; I love her conversational style and storytelling-I just didn't particularly like *this* story or its characters.
Overall, this is still an OK book for the beach or to pass a weekend afternoon or two, but I'm sorry to say I did expect more from Weiner. If you're looking to pick up her writing for the first time, be sure to go with one of her first two efforts and leave this one for later down the line, if at all.
I give this three espresso cups out of five, and do look forward to Weiner's next book. |
Weiner is a Winner!! 2010-02-14 |
| By A. Rowe |
| Jennifer Weiner is my favorite author when it comes to chick lit and she didn't disappoint with this one! In 'Best Friends Forever' Weiner added a twist-suspense, and it worked great. This book shows that you can keep that best friend forever even without seeing or talking to one another for years and that the bond between you too is as strong today as it was 15 years ago. |
