Description

In this next installment in the Immortals Afterwards Dark Series, USA Today Bestselling author Kresley Cole brings a scorching tale concerning a forbidding vampire who lives in the shadows and the stunning assassin who hunts him there.

A soldier weary of life . . .

Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire -- a nightmare in his intellect -- against his will. Burdened together with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to exist. Until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead.

A Valkyrie assassin dispatched to destroy him . . .

When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow -- accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings -- particularly lust -- emerge multiplied. For the first time, she's unable to complete a kill.

Become competitors in a legendary hunt.

The award of the month-long contest is great enough to modify history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking each opportunity -- as they journey to ancient tombs and throughout catacombs, seeking relics all-around the world -- to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to select between the vampire she's falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin exist not including either?

Customer rating is 5 of 5  Fun read!   2010-09-05

I liked this book a lot. I did like it better than the first book of the Immortals After Dark series, A Hunger Like No Other... The reason being, I liked the romance/chemistry between these characters more. The sex scenes are just as hot, although in the first book, I could do without the first encounter, its not horrible, just not for me :) I felt this book had more depth and really enjoyed the plot, it was exciting!
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Nice follow up to Lachlain and Emma's story (book 1)   2010-09-04

Despite the lead female character, Kaderin, being overly irritatingly stubborn, the lead male, Sebastian saves the book and makes it a worthy follow up to book 1. Books 1, 2, and 3 are great. Book 4 is when things start slowing down - not yet totally drop dead boring (despite the repetitive storyline) but not something I would buy if given a do-over. By book 5 I was so bored I almost didn't finish reading it. And this was disappointing as the male lead in book 5 is a demon and I enjoyed Larissa Ione's Demonica series so thought I would like the story of Cade.
Customer rating is 2 of 5  She's just not that into you   2010-09-03

Wow. Gotta say this book ultimately really disappointed me. In fact, it was kinda like a punch in the gut, because the hero was so winning. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Sebastian Wroth was the most endearing, sexiest hero I've ever encountered. But, truth be told, I couldn't stand Kaderin. I found her unnecessarily cold and brutal. After awhile I was like "Dude. She's just not that into you." Seriously, I thought he was so hot and lovable, I wanted him to find someone worthy. I quit reading the book, 3/4 of the way through, which is a shame because I thought aside from Kaderin it had so much going for it. It was better-written and more cohesive than the first book. It also delved deeper into the Lore, which was a welcome change. But I couldn't forgive the waste of Sebastian, who was crazy intriguing hot. I loved the way he was hesitant but hot, awkward but aristocratic. With just a touch of arrogance. And his struggles with his massive height were sooooooooo sweet. I just wanted to hug him. Hell, do a lot more than hug him. Too bad he was stuck with that bitch. This is first time in my life where I actually totally disliked a bodice-ripper's heroine. It was...disconcerting. I can see why this book seems to be a polarizing one. I'm eagerly anticipating the next, however. It seems to be pretty uniformly loved.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  I did like it!   2010-08-29

This is the first book where the reviews seem to be clouding my opinion. I really liked this book and I am enjoying this series. Kresley Cole does a good job telling both perspectives of the main characters. As the books build, I am learning all about "the Lore" and their rich history. This book had a lot of passion and when the characters do consummate the relationship, it's electric. I look forward to reading more books in the series and like how the characters from the past move forward in future books. This was was definitely a "re-read".
Customer rating is 5 of 5  New Favorite Author   2010-08-15

My favorite romance authors are Diana Gabaldon, Stephanie Meyer (so far), and Jane Austen. I've now added Kresley Cole to that list, although she obviously takes the story further ;-) She doesn't use slang or fashion that dates the characters, unless it is a historical romance. Her historical romance accuracy has been brought up in comments, but I didn't find any errors distracting. The heroes sound like real men, whereas some authors write the hero in such a way that I can't tell the difference between him and the heroine. Her heroes don't seem to cross the line into being misogynists either. Her heroines are relatable, usually strong, and never painfully oblivious or dumb. Some of her books are better than others, but compared to other authors in this genre they are all worthy of 5 stars.
